Granite surface panels are high-precision planar reference components made from natural granite as the substrate and processed with precision. With their unique physical properties, they play an irreplaceable role in precision measurement, high-end equipment manufacturing, and other fields.
Its core advantage comes from the material properties of natural granite: firstly, it has ultra-high stability. The thermal expansion coefficient of granite is extremely low (about 5 × 10 ⁻⁶/℃), only 1/4 of cast iron, and it hardly deforms in temperature fluctuation environments, which can maintain plane accuracy for a long time; Secondly, it has excellent wear resistance, with a Mohs hardness of 6-7 levels, far exceeding cast iron (2-3 levels). After polishing, the surface can resist scratches for a long time, and the service life can reach decades; Furthermore, it has excellent shock absorption properties. The natural crystal structure can absorb high-frequency vibrations, making it more suitable as a reference surface for precision measurements than metals.
The processing technology determines its accuracy level. High quality granite panels require multiple processes: selecting natural granite blocks without cracks, sawing and rough grinding to form blanks; By using a CNC grinding machine for precision grinding, the flatness error is controlled within 0.005mm/m (the highest precision level); Finally, mirror polishing is performed to achieve a surface roughness of Ra0.02 μ m, which is close to the optical mirror effect. Key functional surfaces will reserve screw holes or T-shaped slots for fixing measuring instruments or workpieces, with hole position tolerances strictly controlled within ± 0.01mm
In application scenarios, granite panels are the core equipment of the metrology room, used for calibrating high-precision instruments such as coordinate measuring machines and laser interferometers; In semiconductor manufacturing, as the reference surface of wafer inspection platform, it ensures micrometer level detection accuracy; In the optical industry, it is used as a positioning reference for lens grinding to avoid magnetic field interference caused by metal materials. Compared with cast iron panels, it is non-magnetic and rust free, making it more suitable for use in special environments such as clean rooms and laboratories. However, it is more brittle and needs to avoid severe impacts.
With the increasing demand for benchmark accuracy in the precision manufacturing industry, the application scope of granite panels is extending from traditional metrology to high-end equipment, becoming an important guarantee for modern industry to pursue nanometer level accuracy.
